Christopher Nolan's Batman or Tim Burton's Batman?

I think Christopher Nolan's Batman movies were better and he did a better job with the character.I have a few problems with the Burton movies. In the first movie Batman gets his @ss kicked in bell tower fight against some random Joker goon. I know they were trying to make Batman seem more human but I guy with so much training like Batman just doesn't get the crap punched out of him. I thought the Batman in the Nolan movies was a much better fighter. Also the Batman in the Burton movies acted pretty dumb in Batman Returns.

This is a tough one. I think the Tim Burton films were better written and Batman had to do a lot more detective work. For instance when he was trying to figure out what the Joker and the Penguin were up to and who they might be. The reason Batman struggled against a goon was because he was injured from his plane being shot down.

I agree that these films could get a little bit silly in some places. Like when Batman is fighting Catwoman and he gets all apologetic for hitting her. However despite this I think that the performances from actors like Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton, Christopher Walkin, Danny Devito and Michelle Pheiffer mad up for the flaws in the films.

I sort of Like the Nolan films but at the same time I always found their scripts and stories to be a bit weak. The second film was definitely the best. That was mostly down the Heath ledger's joker. The third film had a bunch of very noticeable plot holes that I don't think I really need to go into. Now you may think that the Batman of the Tim Burton films couldn't fight that well and maybe that's true. But he made up for it by having a huge array of gadgets. Something which the newer Batman seemed to be missing in spades. Such as when he was fighting Bane. All he had was that sparkly thing. But had that been Tim Burton's Batman, he would have had more than just his fists to help defeat Bane. I'm not going criticise how stupid Batman was to walk into that extremely obvious trap because the Tim Burton Batman was as guilty of such things if not more so.

The Nolan films are a bit more serious than the Burton ones. Plus the action is definitely better. But I think the scripts, casting and stories of the Burton films are better. Oh and I love the soundtracks in the two originals too. Also I think Micheal Keaton was both a better Bruce Wayne and Batman than Christian Bale.

While they did seem a bit silly in some places, keep in mind that the Burton movies are over 20 years old...

While I liked the first one, I didn't enjoy Batman Returns as much since I found that Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer's characters pushed Keaton's Bruce Wayne in to the role of a secondary character...

I don't think the script in the Nolan movies were all that bad. Some great lines and memorable quotes. I think the last 2 movies were cinema masterpieces.

Batman and Batman Returns holds a deep place in my heart. When I was younger, I always asked my uncle to watch them, since he had them on VHS. I watch them yearly, for nostalgic reasons. I love how Nicholson plays The Joker, maybe even more than I love Heath Ledger as the Joker. Danny DeVito as the penguin was glorious. He played that role fantastically. I also loved Christopher Walken in the second.

As for cinematic work, obviously the Nolan trilogy is superior. It has a darker theme, and it plays better with Batman's personality. However, I do believe the Batman should have been seen doing more detective work. He did more of it in Batman Begins, but less and less in the two following movies.

To be fair to Tim Burton, Nolan had way more money to spend and way better technology to work with. Plus he didn't have imbecile producers breathing down his neck, trying to make the film more suitable for younger audiences like Tim Burton did.

Yeah. I think for Burton's time those movies were excellent by the standards that were expected. There weren't much other super hero movies he had to compete with or use. In a way, his movies paved the way for Nolan's movies. But Nolan had to deal with higher expectations and he exceeded those tremendously.

Nolan's by a huge margin.

Don't get me wrong though, I love me some Batman Returns.

Nolan. Nolan, every time. Don't get me wrong, I like Burton's films, but to me there really is just no contest here. Batman Forever's the only old wave Batman film that I really really enjoyed, and I don't think that was even Burton..

Dark Knight was better than Dark Knight Rises by a long shot.

Tom Hardy pulled off a really good villain, but they couldn't have picked a worse actress for Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Ann Hathaway as Catwoman ruined the movie for me, and it didn't make any sense to me why they picked her considering that the role she originally auditioned for was Harley Quinn (which wouldn't have been a good fit for her either in my opinion).

Both series are good, but Nolan's really brings a grittier, and darker side to Batman that few series have touched upon.

Tim Burton's Batman movies are some of the greatest movies of my childhood, but in terms of actual watchability I think I'd go for Nolans. I like the 'Dark Knight' to be an actual 'Dark' guy.

Best scene from Nolan's film: Joker and Harvey Dent at the Hospital
Best scene from Burton's: Catwoman licking Batman :)

I thought Anne Hathaway did a good job as Selina Kyle. She just got overshadowed by a brilliant Tom Hardy as Bane.
